New Poll: Voters Demand Action on Unsafe Chinese Drugs
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new national poll reveals strong concern among American voters, particularly conservatives, about the growing threat of unsafe, foreign-made drugs entering the U.S. through online pharmacies and rogue compounders.
Findings show broad, bipartisan support for tougher FDA oversight, stricter enforcement, and a renewed commitment to rebuilding American pharmaceutical manufacturing—driven by mounting concern over U.S. dependence on adversarial nations, particularly China. Voters are calling for urgent federal action to protect both public health and national security from the risks posed by foreign drug reliance.
“This isn’t just a public health issue, it’s a national security crisis,” said Raul Lopez, board member of Rx Border Defense. “When we allow foreign adversaries like China to flood our communities with unregulated, dangerous compounded drugs and ingredients, we’re not just risking lives, we’re funding violence, empowering domestic gangs, and undermining American safety. If we want secure borders and safe neighborhoods, we need to shut down the foreign drug pipeline and take back control.”
Key Findings
· 92% of Trump voters say the FDA should do more to protect Americans from unsafe prescription drugs.
· 94% support mandatory country-of-origin labeling for all medications.
· Only 31% trust drugs made in China, compared to 82% who trust U.S.-made medicine.
· 88% agree the U.S. border isn’t secure until the flow of illicit drug ingredients is stopped.
· 67% oppose expanded drug compounding beyond narrow exceptions, even in shortage scenarios.
· Just 41% of Trump voters trust online pharmacies to sell FDA-approved drugs.
These findings highlight strong bipartisan appetite for decisive federal action to protect patients, promote pharmaceutical transparency, and reduce dependence on overseas manufacturers, especially in light of recent supply chain disruptions and rising global tensions with countries like China.
This public concern comes as a large cohort of federal and state officials—including 38 members of the National Association of Attorneys General, more than 80 members of Congress, and U.S. Senators Jim Banks (R-IN), Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)—are calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Attorney General, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Federal Trade Commission to strengthen oversight of online sellers of compounded GLP-1 receptor antagonists and unregulated active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
Echoing these concerns, Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) recently warned that U.S. reliance on Chinese-made pharmaceuticals presents a national security threat and called for restoring domestic drug manufacturing through deregulation and strategic investment.
“The safety of American patients is under attack from unregulated foreign drug factories, shady online pharmacies, and unchecked compounders operating outside the law,” Lopez added. “Americans are sending a clear message: they want to stop the dangerous flow of counterfeit drugs, manufacture essential medications here at home, and hold violators accountable."
About the Poll
Fabrizio Ward conducted the national survey on behalf of Rx Border Defense from July 17-21, 2025, among 1,000 registered voters. Interviews were conducted via cell phones (35%), landlines (25%), and SMS-to-Web (40%) to voters sampled from the voter file. The poll has a margin error of ±3.1%. View the polling memo here.
